You are welcome to visit us in our store in Lilienthal to see and try on our hats. Please make an appointment with us beforehand so that we can prepare a pre-selection for you accordingly. Please understand that we may not be able to show you hats without an appointment, as our main business is mail order and we need to have enough staff on site to provide you with the best service.

A)Hat size or head circumference are known: If you are still not sure, it is better if the hat is ordered one centimeter larger. Free of charge you will receive cork inserts with your Akubra hat for size adjustment.

B)Hat size or head circumference are not known: Please use a tape measure to measure the circumference of your head horizontally across your forehead and the back of your head. The measurement thus obtained in centimeters represents the hat size. If you do not have a tape measure handy, take a string and then measure the length. Please round up to the nearest full centimeter to determine the correct Akubra order size.

Important: Free of charge, you will receive cork inserts with your Akubra hat to compensate for size. Simply place these behind the leather sweatband to achieve the best possible fit. Depending on the shape of your head, it is recommended to position these cork inserts at the front, back or sides.

An Akubra hat is made from pure fur felt, which is pure 100% rabbit hair felt. This is naturally extremely durable and largely rainproof. Waterproofing spray is therefore completely unnecessary. Rain or shine, you can wear the "Akubra" in any weather. If possible, let the wet hat dry with good ventilation. Heating or hair dryer are definitely not to be used. The easiest way to remove dirt is with a brush and circular movements counterclockwise. In order for the Akubra to keep its shape, it should not be placed on the brim and certainly not on the rear shelf in the car. If the Akubra loses its shape, you can carefully try to alter it with hot steam (e.g. steam iron or kettle). In case of doubt, of course, you should leave it to the professionals.

Our leather hats are made of sturdy leather and pre-impregnated. This makes them particularly robust and resistant. If you still want to reimpregnate your hat, you can find suitable spray for this in specialized stores. If your hat ever gets wet in the rain, it is especially important to let it dry gently and slowly. Never dry your hat in the blazing sun, on the heater or with a hair dryer. Likewise, the hat does not belong in the car on the rear shelf.
The crushable hats can be crumpled for a shorter period of time. However, keep in mind that you can damage this feature if you do not handle it properly. In the longer term, you should never store your hat crumpled. For suitable storage, we recommend our hat rack.
